Jobing Description
This position attends to the turbine/generator and its related systems and auxiliary equipment, including some boiler water chemistry testing, and assists in the main control room as required for the purpose of generating electricity. Required Skills Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and reaching; and occasional sitting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, use of keyboard/computer, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Equipment used includes (but not limited to): hand, power, and pneumatic tools; skid steer loader; forklift; motor vehicles; ladders; jackhammers; manlifts; and power lifts. Finger dexterity, ability to speak, good hearing and color vision, and the ability to perform close work is required. Must be able to analyze data/reports, conduct research, develop plans, present information to others, and implement recommendations. When necessary, may be required to work under pressure. Working conditions frequently include noise and electrical risks; and occasionally extreme heat and cold, dirt and dust, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and poor ventilation. Occasionally may be required to work in confined areas and at heights. Must be respirator qualified. Required Experience Should have a general knowledge of math and science; the ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions; and have the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with supervisors and fellow workers at a level acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) certificate. The incumbent must have the knowledge of power plant operations, theories, processes, high voltage switching, and turbine electric operations acquired through completion of two years of operations experience in a coal-based generating station and one year of operating main plant auxiliary equipment. Must have a basic knowledge of computers. The incumbent must also successfully complete the DFS Station Operator qualification program within 90 days of implementation.
